The National Museum is located in the upper end of Wenceslas Square. The National Museum’s main building is the oldest and largest museum in the Czech Republic. This monumental neo-Renaissance structure was designed by Josef Schultz as an architectural symbol of the Czech national rebirth. Construction took place 1818–1891. The museum offers exhibits of artefacts from the ancient eras of Bohemia, Moravia, and Slovakia, a collection of rocks and minerals, and a showcase of palaeontological, zoological, and anthropological exhibit items.
